Seacoast Pathways, a program of Granite Pathways, is a mental health recovery peer community in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
One of the standards governing Seacoast Pathways Clubhouse is making sure to reach out to those in need and battling mental health challenges. Prior to the Covid era, our members visited Portsmouth Hospital's Behavioral Unit weekly and faithfully to give a short presentation to patients about our clubhouse and inviting them to join us when ready following their discharge. We have been unable to do that during Covid, but we haven't forgotten those patients!
Last Fall we created a dvd that presented our members, staff and clubhouse in a short video. The link to that video is below. The Behavioral Unit shows the video twice a week to patients. In addition, one of our members, "J", created a beautiful watercolor painting (depicted above) that we turned into "care cards" for patients. Every two weeks our clubhouse members and staff write a short note of caring in the margin of about 20 cards and send them to the BHU to distribute to patients.
We understand how very difficult it is for people to be in isolation due to mental illness. It's magnified dramatically by Covid! Our members understand that advocating for others, even as they themselves are working on their own recovery, is a key ingredient for wellness.
We continue to send our best wishes to our peers who are currently at Portsmouth Hospital Behavioral Unit! Below is the link to our video for them.
